Financial Modeling and Valuation

IBI’s Financial Modeling and Valuation course is like a Boot Camp online. You will learn the fundamental concepts of corporate finance and how to apply them in investment banking, private equity, financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and other relevant analytical areas of finance. The Valuation lessons focus on three essential valuation techniques: Comparable Companies Analysis, Precedent Transactions Analysis and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Valuation. You will learn how to spread a company’s historical financial statements and derive trends, KPIs, drivers and averages to create assumptions for a projection model. Next you complete an integrated 3-statement model that can be used to analyze any financial transaction. IBI highly recommends repeating the 3-statement model process with a variety of industries and increasing levels of complexity.

After building your integrated 3-statement model you’ll learn how to structure a Leveraged Buyout (LBO) transaction. In the current low interest rate environment, LBOs remain attractive ways for financial sponsors and management to purchase companies. However, economic and market conditions create specific challenges requiring knowledge beyond the surface level. IBI’s growing library of case studies taken from recent, real-world examples will accelerate your understanding of these highly complex transactions.

Next the course covers the fundamentals of M&A analysis. Topics include Valuation, Initial Purchase Terms, Capital Structure, Debt Markets and the Consideration (i.e. the amounts of cash and stock used in the transaction.) The course then includes Accretion/Dilution Analysis, Synergies and Post Merger Outcomes, Leverage Ratios, Interest Coverage Statistics and much more.
